Where appropriate, ANAPOK - SPORTS will use both foreign
and local expertise in its projects.
Reasons
and Benefits
The long-standing political crisis in Haiti has had a negative
effect on the participation of the youth in organized sports
and the practice of sports in general. When things are not
going well and resources are scarce, sports and youth programs
are always the most impacted. In the Southern region of
Haiti, long known for the quality of its athletes in sports
like soccer, volley-ball, cycling, basket-ball, etc, the
practice of organized sports has regressed considerably.
The youth in this region are missing on the benefits of
practicing organized team sports. Sports bring discipline,
pride, responsibility, hope, self-confidence, teamwork,
a sense of belonging, and good health among other benefits.
ANAPOK - SPORTS believes it is paramount for the future
of the South of Haiti that organized sports become an integral
part of the life of our young men and women, as it was in
the past. A lack of leadership and a lack of financing are
the primary causes for the degradation of youth sports in
the Southern region of Haiti. The creation of ANAPOK - SPORTS
will help in both the leadership and financing aspects.
Although local and regional organizations should continue
to function and grow, having the backing of a unique organization
can bring structure and purpose to actions that are being
taken by local sports leaders.
It is understood that Haiti cannot rely solely on the international
community for the financing of its projects of development.
Alternative and indigenous sources of financing must be
found and generated. Haitians living abroad can and should
become the primary agents of development of their country
of origin. In doing so, they will be helping to change the
image of Haiti in the world and also generate a renewed
sense of hope in the future for the youth of Haiti.
